Coffee Cooling Tray

This electric powered auxillary cooling fan cools up to 1 pound of roasted coffee in 2 minutes. It also removes much of the loose chaff from roasted coffee, especially those pesky naturals!

Many home roasting machines cool the roasted batch in the same chamber they roast in, meaning the coffee takes longer to fully cool down. And some methods, like stovetop roasting, result in some very high temperature coffee with no quick way to cool. This two-layer cooling fan might be handy to have! We like this model because of the quiet operation, and noted that it has a larger fan (150 mm) than others sold online.

Here's some notes and observations from our testing:

  • 1 pound batch cools to room temperature at 2.5 minutes.
  • Cools evenly, with no hot spots.
  • Very quiet motor, and low profile.
  • Great at chaff separation for naturals, especially for roasters with less efficient chaff separation. (Fresh Roast, Behmor, some Drum Roasters)
  • Stirring as the coffee as it cools helps with chaff separation. It doesn't seems to decrease cool time.
  • On-off switch but no variable-speed setting for fan motor. (We don't think it's needed anyway).

Tips for Best Results:

  • It's imporant to spread the roasted coffee evenly across the upper tray, to maximize cooling.
  • User needs to empty fine wire mesh after every cooling cycle otherwise airflow is impacted.
