These colorful milk glass mugs feature our take on the floral design you typically see on traditional, Ethiopian Sini cups. At 8oz these mugs are much larger than an actual Sini cup, so if you prefer to gulp rather than sip these are a perfect alternative. Available in four colors and made of opaque, colored glass with Sweet Maria's logo on the bottom.
Coffee in Ethiopia is social. It’s an event shared between family, friends and visitors, where coffee is just a part of a social exchange. It can be a full “ceremony” of roasting on a pan (Metaj) over a small charcoal fire, grinding in a mortar (Mukecha) and brewing in a Jebena pot. When the coffee is ready you will be served in these small "Sini" cups that hold around 2oz of coffee. Anywhere you go in Ethiopia, the capital of Addis, Jimma in the West, Harar in the East, down in Shakiso, up in the North, you will find the same, small cup with a lovely floral pattern.
But what if your coffee drinking style is more gulp than sip? And what if you prefer a handle, but love the floral design. Well you're in luck!
These milk glass mugs with colorful "Sini" floral design are made of an opaque (but still slightly translucent) style of glass that has had several ebbs and flows in popularity over the years. These mugs come in four colors (white, blue, yellow and green) and have a nice heft and sturdy feel to them. The D handle is on the smaller side, designed to be operated with your index finger through the hole with your thumb resting on top and your middle finger providing underside support.
Measuring 3.5" tall and 3.0" wide, they have a "to the rim" capacity of 8 oz, but most people will be happier filling them with a little bit less.
