The Hottop Basic is for you if you feel confident in your understanding of coffee roasting basics, want up to a 1/2 lb batch, enjoy more developed roasts, an external cool cycle, and a tough machine.
Includes a free 8 pound green coffee sample set with coffees from different origins. Choose from 'regular': coffees good for traditional brewing methods, or 'espresso': coffees good for espresso preparation and darker roasting. 'Espresso' sampler option may contain some blends and some single origin coffees.
Roasting with the Hottop takes an extra effort: you need to understand the sights, sounds and smells of the coffee roasting process to get the best results. But this method, roasting with your senses, is made simple with a machine that gives a close-up view of the coffee during the roast cycle via the sight glass, and produces a lot of roast aroma (read this as smoke!). Yep, if you roast more coffee you are going to get more smoke. There's no way around it. You are going to need ventilation, ideally by using it under a kitchen vent hood or near an open window. The roast profile you can achieve in the Hottop is closer to the results of a commercial drum roaster than the smaller home air roasters can get.
The Hottop can accomplish a range of roast levels, and even works well for those who like darker roasts because it won't bake out your coffee with a longer-than-ideal roast time.
Hottop continuously improves the machine and only the most recent production model will be shipped out.
