Product Overview
Product Overview

The StovePop by VKP Stainless Steel Popper happens to be a competent coffee roaster, in the right hands, and has been our standby stovetop roaster for years. This is the same method you will read about in Home Coffee Roasting by Ken Davids.

While this method is completely manual (you need to adjust the heat, crank the popper consistently, and dump your roasted coffee into a colander in order to cool it) You will appreciate roasting more than 8oz. of coffee at a time (much more than an air popper, FreshRoast or Nesco).

This method can do a full range of roast levels but even with constant agitation it can take some practice to get even results. Stovetop roasters are better suited for darker roasts (great for espresso). It does produce smoke (more coffee + darker roasts = more smoke) but a good range hood will handle it. You can also use this method on a gas camp stove or other portable heat sources. It makes great popcorn too!

It comes with a tip sheet. You ca download a PDF from the 'Use & Care' section!

We're selling this for home roasting but keep in mind:

  • Stovetop popcorn poppers are not made for coffee roasting.
  • The manufacturer's warranty will be voided when you use it for anything other than popping corn.
  • Unless the gears don't work right out of the box, we cannot accept any returns or honor any refunds.

Your green coffee sampler will be packed inside the popper for shipping.

Use & Care
USE & CARE

Is the stirrer scraping the bottom of the pot/hard to turn? The agitator tip assembly is supposed to have at least 1/4” free play on the shaft. See the instructions that came with the VKP Popper. You received a small hex head wrench, so just loosen the tiny bolt and adjust the free play. Check out "Fixing a Scraping StovePop Stirrer" in the Downloads section for detailed directions.

Is the crank handle spinning easily but stirrer not turning at all? The same little bolt might have come loose from the shaft. Use that hex head wrench and tighten it! Keep that little wrench around and the instructions that come with the popper. You may need to make adjustments from time to time.
