Behmor Brazen Plus 4.0 Coffee Brewer

The Brazen Plus 4.0 is made by Behmor, the same company that makes the popular 2000AB coffee roaster. We really like the Brazen 4.0 because it strikes a really nice balance between control and ease of use and...you know...makes a great cup of coffee. It stands in contrast to the other electric coffee brewer we recommend which offers more control and advanced features at the cost of simplicity.

On the Brazen, you can easily adjust the brew temperature (190°F - 210°F) and pre-soak time (15 seconds - 4 minutes) to your liking and the Brazen takes care of the rest of the details. Once you find the settings you like, they're saved so the next time you're ready to brew you can just hit "Start."

In many ways, the Brazen operates like a more traditional coffee brewer that you're probably familiar with. You need to fill the stainless steel reservoir with your desired amount of water and put your preferred amount of ground coffee into the basket with a paper filter or one of the included metal ones each time you brew. No automatic dosing here! 

Once you hit Start, the Brazen will bring the water up to the temperature you set and then begin to brew. Unlike lower quality brewers which percolate the water onto the coffee grounds or release it in one steady stream, the Brazen brews in pulses. This model brews faster than earlier versions, pulsing for 20 seconds on then 10 seconds off. This allows the basket to fill and drain over the course of brewing which yields a very nice extraction. If you pay attention to how many people do pour-overs you'll notice a similar technique. The difference is they're standing and waiting to do the next pour while you're on the couch reading the funnies.

Like waking up in the morning to coffee that's ready to go? The Brazen has a clock and auto-start timer so you can pre-set your brewer to automatically start brewing at any time of the day. And if you decide to sleep in a little, don't worry. The stainless steel carafe does a good job of keeping the coffee hot.
