Behmor 1600AB Plus Roaster

The Behmor 1600AB Plus home coffee roaster is a simple, easy to use unit that roasts up to a pound at a time. It includes a free 8 pound green coffee sampler with coffees from different origins. Choose from 'regular': coffees good for traditional brewing methods, or 'espresso': coffees good for espresso preparation. 'Espresso' sampler option may contain some blends and some single origin coffees.

It has pre-programmed roast profiles and an automatic cooling cycle. If you want more control over your roast, you can roast in manual mode to control the temperature and drum speed. The 1600AB has a stronger motor compared to the original 1600 Plus, allowing for better control over the roast. At any time, you can view the temperatures of the inside the roasting chamber and the exhaust vent.

This roaster makes perfect sense for those who want to roast larger batches than what most other home roasters can produce. That said, the Behmor is not ideal for very dark roasts - if you consistently roast into second crack, this might not be the roaster for you. 

The 1600 Plus has a strong feature set and is backed by Behmor's excellent customer service. We really want to match the right machine to the right person so it's important that you research as much as possible. If you want the DIY and hands-on experience, the Behmor may not be for you. Although you can see the beans roasting through the window on the door and smell some of the smoke and steam that sneaks past the smoke removal system, you won't be able to get that up-close experience that you would with a popcorn popper or the FreshRoast. The cooling cycle works great but you need to anticipate the end of your roast time since it takes a while for the machine to get down to room temperature.

The Behmor is rated at 120v. If you live in a country with 220v oulets, using an adaptor won't work. Behmors are tested before they leave the factory, so if you see a little discoloration of the grill protecting the heating elements of your brand new roaster, this is a good thing. It's a sign of quality control. This is the latest version Behmor roaster with the updated control panel, matte finish, improved fans, improved small grid drum and low-profile chaff collector. The 1600AB also has double-paned glass for improved heat retention. 

The smoke reduction feature makes it a pleasure to use indoors. Keep in mind though, it is not 100% smoke free. There will be some smoke and aroma coming from the machine when roasting larger, darker batches, and when opening the door after your roast is complete.
