Tom uses these all the time both with our 3 barrel professional sample roaster at work, and when he's roasting and brewing a batch at home. Why not just use a phone? Well, sometimes we like to untether ourselves  from our smart phones, but still keep track of time when roasting. So that’s why. Oh, and fun colors!

We thought this new timer was a low cost alternative and the colors were fun. It has some great features too! Like some other timers it has nice large numbers on a good clear, crisp display. You can stand it up because it has a little kickstand in the back. It also has a magnet to attach to a surface. The timer counts up or counts down. My favorite thing is that it has an on-off switch. I haven’t found another timer that you can turn off, saving battery. As for batteries the bad news is they don’t come with the timer. The good news is that it doesn’t use some rare, oddball disc battery like other timers. It uses 2 x AAA batteries (I like to use rechargeables).
