Easy Adjust Manual Coffee Grinder
Product Overview
Product Overview
Our core criteria for affordable hand grinders is the following: metal construction, decent quality stainless steel burrs, easy to adjust grind settings, portable size and shape and a comfortable crank handle. We always consider price too; we want to sell a grinder that we think is good value for the money.
Luckily, hand grinders continue to improve year after year. This includes ones on the more affordable end too, providing more bang for your buck. We’ve come a long way from the ceramic burr days of 2015, where a grinder of this quality would be considered top of the line and command a top shelf price.
Although we don’t think this grinder is on par with some of the very expensive, deluxe hand grinders that exist nowadays, we think that it's more than adequate for people who need a basic grinder that can handle a variety of standard brewing methods, and it’s priced to match.
We’ve tested it with brew methods including the V60, Aeropress, single hole Melitta, Clever dripper and, yes, even our Lelit MaraX. We were able to get good results without too much trouble. It’s comparable to what you might expect from a standard Baratza Encore.
The primary grind adjustment is an external click-ring that is easy to use, read and adjust. There are 55 levels of adjustment which range from espresso fine to Kosher salt coarse. Although the grinder can go fine enough for espresso, it's hard to call it an espresso grinder. It may work in a pinch, but the grind is not perfectly consistent, and in our testing there were only 2-3 settings that we actually found usable for the way we brew espresso. It works much better for general purpose brewing, where there is more flexibility and where the adjustments are more meaningful.
The grinder has an aluminum chassis, stainless steel crank handle and shaft and hardened SU 420 stainless conical steel burrs in a “7 star” pattern. The shaft is supported by 2 sealed metal bearings. Capacity depends on the coffee and roast level, we use up to 23 grams medium City+ roast. Dark roast will hold less, but be easier to grind! We think this would make a good travel grinder, but at 1.2 lbs it’s probably a bit heavy for backpacking.
