Cordless Electric Grinder SS Burrs - Silver

It might seem odd to talk about an electric-powered "hand grinder" for coffee, but here it is! This USB-C rechargeable mill comes from the same factory that makes our all-metal hand mill, and features the same stainless steel conical burr set.

It can do a wide range of grinds, from espresso fine to Chemex coarse, but the sweet spot is in the pour over range where there is a significant amount of adjustability. Grind adjustments are handled via an external adjustment ring with 38 steps that makes adjusting the grind much easier, more straightforward, and more repeatable. That being said, the grinder might not get coarse enough for people who like a really coarse French press grind, and even though it can grind fine enough for espresso it really lacks adjustability in that range. Using our Lelit MaraX, water barely passed through the puck using a "1" grind and a "4" resulted in a pretty watery espresso pouring out of the portafilter with gusto. So it grinds very fine, but we might not call it an espresso grinder.

The slow burr rotation speed is really akin to a hand grinder, except you don’t have to labor over actually grinding the coffee nor wait around for it to finish. The mill turns itself off when the grinding is done, and grinding 25 grams takes about 30-45 seconds depending on the coffee and how fine the grind is. Very fine grinds will take a little longer, of course. The body has plastic components while the burrs and drive shaft are stainless steel. It’s worth noting that static causes some grinds to cling to the burrs after grinding, but we've found a few gentle taps to the body of the grinder can knock the grinds loose without too much trouble. The grinds catcher presses on to the bottom of the grinder with a friction fit, so don't tap that part too hard or the grinds might go flying!

The power button on top has a LED on top which illuminates steady blue while it's grinding, and switches to flashing blue when the grinder completes the job and turns itself off. The LED changes to a red color when the battery is low and while it's recharging. You'll know its fully charged when the LED turns to blue... and then turns off. Blink and you'll miss it! The battery can last a good amount of time; we have gone 2+ weeks of daily use between charges. 

The grinder itself is pretty compact, some might even call it portable! The fact that it can go back in the drawer with other coffee stuff, keeping precious counter space clear, is an added bonus. It’s relatively quiet compared to electric mills, certainly way more serene than an old Krups that wakes up the whole house. For us, it fits the bill and takes some of the work out of our morning brewing routine. If you don’t need large amounts of coffee, and want something that can be put away after use, we think this is a great option!
