Sumatra Lintong Sigumpar Village
This wet hulled coffee shows classic Lintong complexity, earth-toned, inky bittersweets, and about as heavy-bodied as coffee gets! Layers of dark cocoa, green herb notes, tobacco, aromatic wood. City+ to Full City+. Good for espresso.
Full Cupping Notes
This wet hulled coffee shows classic Lintong complexity with exceptional low tones in the mid-to-dark roasts, and about as heavy bodied as coffee gets! The fragrance and aroma have sweet smells of sorghum and dark corn syrup lined with aspects of green herbal notes, and rustic bittering qualities. Sigumpar's inky body coats your tongue in earth-toned bittersweetness that leaves a lasting impact in the aftertaste. Flavors of rustic raw cacao and bittering nibs came to mind. As you move through the cup, earth and herbal notes come through, piney green hints and cilantro, aromatic pipe tobacco, and the sweetness has aspects of rustic palm sugar. The cup aroma conjures complex impressions of a humidor room at a tobacconist, with a faint peat-like Scotch hint. Full City roasts make a strong show of intense roast bittering, layers of dark cocoa, flourless torte, basil-dark chocolate, and the long finish yields hints of aromatic cedar. If you're a fan of Sumatran espresso, Sigumpar is a no brainer and will yield an intensely bittersweet, viscous shot.

Origin & Farm Notes
Many Sumatra farmers have been gravely affected by the recent typhoons, isolated in rural areas without critical supplies, like food, water, and fuel. Read more about the current efforts to fly in aid here, where you can also donate to help bring supplies to Sumatran coffee communities.
Lintong coffees are from Sumatra, the island that is politically and geographically part of Indonesia. Lintong Nihota is the town that has become synonymous with the entire southern part of Lake Toba area. Lake Toba defines the landscape of the area, the largest volcanic crater lake in the world, and the result of the largest volcanic event on earth in the last 25 million years! It is huge, and the coffees from the north and eastern shores are quite different from the Lintong coffees. This Lintong coffee is from Sigumpar Village, in the northern Sumatran sub-district of Humbang Hasunduntan. It comes from a family milling operation in town operated by man named Alexander, who is the younger brother of the coffee collector we used to buy this coffee from (well, coffee from Sigumpar Village at least). Pak Alex has his own small farm nearby that he processes and sells, but also buys wet parchment from neighbors in town as well as in six of the neighboring villages. The coffee is grown between 1400 and 1500 meters above sea level and is mostly Jember, Onan Ganjang, Sigarar Utang and Lasuna.
