Stovetop roasting is your tried and true, back to the basics, DIY, cowboy style coffee roasting. The VKP StovePop 6 Quart stovetop popper (roaster) is 100% manual, meaning you need to set the right stovetop heat and crank the popper consistently. Fully stainless steel construction is induction burner compatible, and the direct-drive stirring system makes this a very durable roaster. Great for darker roasts too.

Want a StovePop popper along with all the items you need to get started, like a thermometer, coffee bags, a Sweet Maria's  Roast Log and a Roasted Coffee Color Card? Our Stovetop Roasting Starter Kit is a great choice.

Product Overview

Features of this StovePop popper include:

  • Patent Pending Gearless Flex-drive
  • Smooth-stir crank handle
  • Magnetic lid lifting rod
  • Silicone pouring handle
  • Clad bottom compatible with induction ranges
  • Large 6 quart capacity

While this method is completely manual and you will need to adjust the heat, crank the popper constantly, and dump your roasted coffee into a colander in order to cool it, you will appreciate roasting more than 8oz of coffee at a time (the batch capacity of most of our other home roasters).

This method can do a full range of roast levels but even with constant agitation it can take some practice to get even results. Stovetop roasters are better suited for darker roasts (great for espresso). It does produce smoke (more coffee + darker roasts = more smoke) but a good range hood will handle it. You can also use this method on a gas camp stove or other portable heat sources. It makes great popcorn too!

Using a thermometer is a great addition to the roaster and we have several types to offer or you can check out our Stovetop Popper Kit that already includes one.

It comes with a Sweet Maria's tip sheet to get you started. If you're interested in more information, including a demo roast of a full 1lb of coffee, check out our Library article on the stovetop popper method for coffee roasting.

Note: If you purchase this roaster with an additional green coffee sampler, it will be packed inside the StovePop for shipping.

Use & Care
USE & CARE

Is the stirrer scraping the bottom of the pot/hard to turn? The agitator tip assembly is supposed to have at least 1/4” free play on the shaft. See the instructions that came with the VKP Popper. You received a small hex head wrench, so just loosen the tiny bolt and adjust the free play. You can also download our PDF "Fix a Scraping StovePop Stirrer" for detailed directions.

Is the crank handle spinning easily but stirrer not turning at all? The same little bolt might have come loose from the shaft. Use that hex head wrench and tighten it! Keep it, along the instructions that come with the Popper. You may need to make adjustments from time to time.
