We have offered specific small-farm coffees from Hawaii for year, working with reliable growers who know how to produce quality. Our offerings reflect this focus. Hawaii is a special place for sure, but all coffee grown in the Islands is not the same quality. Genuine Kona is expensive, yet sometimes can taste quite plain and flat. Yes, Hawaiian coffee is mild generally, but it should be clean, sweet, and have delicate taste qualities. So the best coffees cost a lot and the worst cost way too much. So the goal with Hawaiians is to quit thinking that all Hawaiian coffee is good, and to realize that only a handful of coffees deserve the high price in terms of cup quality (you can easily argue that all deserve a high price in terms of the care and labor expended in producing them).
