Sweetness resonates in the cup, with a spot of acidity that has malic apple appeal. Caramelized sugar, coffee cake, pecan bar, cinnamon, and hint of citrus. Dark roast friendly, with big bittersweetness! City to Full City+. Good for espresso.
Full Cupping Notes
The fragrance has a malt-sweet note to it, with hints of brown sugar, and bran muffin with raisins. Sweetness gets a nice lift when adding hot water, and extracts a nice cookie-like sweetness, like brown butter cookie, and vanilla wafer drizzled in caramel. The sweetness resonates in the cup, with a spot of acidity in the lighter roasts that has malic apple appeal. Caramelized sugar notes proliferate in the middle and finish, and along with hints of caramel and cinnamon, brought out profiles of coffee cake, and pecan bar. There's this tangy note in the lighter roast levels that, for me, pulls at an orange/citrus rind thread that brings pleasant bittering to the otherwise sweet finish. I really enjoyed brewing my Full City roast, that was just a few degrees off from 2nd Crack. Deep cocoa roast flavors dominated the cup, with a sweet underlay of torched sugar that offered a nice counterpoint to the bittering roast. Would certainly pair well with milk.

Origin & Farm Notes
Reinaldo Parra is part of a small group of coffee farmers in China Alto whose coffee we've been buying for a hand full of years now. We typically bulk these coffees together in a larger "China Alta" blend that's been excellent. But there wasn't much coffee this harvest, so we only able to secure two single farm lots for a total of 18 bags (Reinaldo's is 12 bag). Unlike many of the well known Tolima growing regions, China Alta is not too far from Ibagué, Tolima's capitol city. But the shorter distance doesn't mean it's easy to get to, and often involves some walking when road conditions are poor during the wet season. Reinaldo's farm sits at 1900 meters above sea level, and is planted in Caturra and Variedad Colombia, the latter being a disease-resistant hybrid developed in Colombia.
