Air roasters are an inexpensive way to get started with home roasting. Most of these are "fluid bed" machines - using hot air to roast and move the coffee. Most hot air roasters have a small batch size, good for 1 or 2 people.
Electric air roasters are especially affected by voltage and ambient temperature. Voltage can vary from one house to another, and can sometimes fluctuate on one outlet. Ambient air temperature will also affect how hot the machine gets. So using a hot air roaster can have some variables you need to consider but it is no more complicated than cooking or baking.
