Bing cherry, dried apricot, strawberry, and mango are found in lighter roasts, whereas the fruits in dark roasts are situated around a base of chocolate. The sweetness is slightly confectionary, which, along with dried tropical and berry fruits, has a fruit-roll-up appeal. Fruits turn to chai spice in the finish along with a dusting of bittersweet cocoa. This coffee has a thick, milky body, and works great in espresso; even as straight unblended shots if you like a rustic sweetness. City+ to Full City+.

The cup is remarkable, with a strawberry/blueberry jam-like fruit character, butterscotch sweetness, vanilla bean, pineapple brightness, and a buttery finish. Darker roasts have black currants, purple grape fruits and more cocoa-chocolate in the finish. As it cools black tea and chai-like spices emerge; cinnamon, star anise, pepper pungency and a dash of nutmeg. A complex coffee that inspires many, many descriptors: syrupy fruited flavors, complex sugar-browning sweetness, pleasantly bittering cocoa notes, and tea/spices. It's a fantastic cup if you like over-the-top dry-processed coffees. City to Full City+.

Stewed fruits like apricot, peach and mixed berries, cacao, pectin sweetness with traces of honey wheat, like fig newton, and dark chocolate. As a "naturally" processed coffee, this cup is very clean. Light roasts have peach jam flavor and sweet huckleberry. Dark roasts are also fruited, but show more of the browning sugar aspect of this coffee with sweetness ala turbinado, sucanat, and date sugar. City+ to Full City+.

When hot, there is an undeniable floral note that reminds us that this is, indeed a yirga cheffe coffee. It has such great sweetness which culminates in flavor of butter caramel. Fruits multiply as the cup cools in temperature - apricot, nectarine, lychee, fresh mango, and strawberry candy were the first to come to mind. This coffee has a silky body and a fairly clean finish, with lots of cocoa and toasted sugar. City+ to Full City+.

This is a supremely sweet smelling coffee with an over the top jasmine scent, clean aromatic profile, fruits like strawberry, raisin, cherry juice, lychee, papaya, and mango fade in and out in the cooling cup, but never quite dissipate. Floral flavors of jasmine and honey suckle also carry through in both light and dark roasts. There is a black tea note as well that tends to be accentuated in the lighter end of the roast spectrum. This coffee finishes surprisingly clean with a mixture of dried fruits and cocoa powder in the long finish. City+ to FC+.

There's a mix of dried strawberries and chocolate too, along with a whiff of macadamia nut. A butterscotch note comes on strong off the steaming hot grounds, with a smell of tropical fruit punch, pie filling, and strawberry jam. A floral note sort of hangs in the air and reminds me this comes from Yirga Cheffe - tantalizing! There's a smattering of fruit flavors that emerge from the cup - grape candy, pomello, grapefruit, pear juice, strawberry, blueberry - on and on. It verges on overwhelming, but in the best of ways. Unlike many naturals we tasted this year, the fruits in Konga aren't over ripe/winey, or "dusty" in flavor. They're sweet, and much more discernible. There's also a nice floral jasmine flavor that really ties the whole profile together. The body is big and juicy, and conveys fruit flavors nicely. City+.

The cup is viscous and sweet, with layers up layers of dark chocolate. Fruits like orange marmalade, as well as pineapple and guava juice are up front in City+ roasts. The sweetness is bold as well as the fruit aspects, but are balanced out by notes of dark cocoa and a moderate acidity. I actually prefer this coffee at the City+ level as fruit flavors become obfuscated when hitting Full City and beyond. Still, FC roasts are very sweet, and with heavy flavors of Ibarra chocolate. City+ to Full City+.

Bright, especially for a natural, and with clean fruit notes and sweetness. This lot of Aricha is remarkable, with a berry syrup fruit character, cinnamon toast, pineapple and ripe citrus brightness, and a sweet butter finish. With a darker roast treatment there are black currants and blueberry notes that emerge, with a drinking cocoa finish at Full City level. This coffee works at a wide range of levels from City to Full City, but the brighter jam-like fruited sweetness is going to be found at C+ level.

Harar's have a rustic quality, often similar to Yemeni coffees. This one is very sweet, slightly floral, and still encompasses a bit of the leathery/earthy sweetness that you'd expect. Chele'lektu is a nice example of a clean tasting dry process Yirg. Fruit flavors taste ripe, peak sweetness, but still close out the finish quite clean. Peach, guava, mango, grapefruit - it's all in there, and makes for a complex cup. Acidity is medium, and there's even slight florals in there. Nice! City to Full City.
