This lot comes to us from the Teklu Dembel washing station in the Kochere Woreda of Yirga Cheffe. This area has many of the old, heirloom Yirga Cheffee cultivars in production, which definitely adds to the unique aromatics and the intensity of cup profile. Kochere is home to many family farms and this coffee is a blend of lots from several hundred small regional farmers. The average altitude of these farms is 1800 to 2000 masl. We've been so impressed by the samples that we cupped from Teklu Dembel, boasting sweet fruits and an overall cleanliness on the pallet, and we're glad to have secured such a solid coffee of this size. This coffee was prepared to Grade 1 standards, meaning only the heaviest (peak ripeness) coffee cherry makes it into this lot.This coffee is part of our Farm Gate pricing program.
There's an intensity to this coffee's profile that is floral, bracing, and full of sweet fruits. The Aromatics are very perfumed with dried wild flowers and fresh jasmine, and there's a sweet tropical note of mango and passion fruit. A scent of browning sugar is bolstered with roast and at Full City the sweetness is deep and there is a culmination of orange peel and five spice. Honeydew melon and panella sugar come up with the steam when adding hot water, and the crust that forms at the top of the class smells like candy corn. All through the aromatics there is a lingering floral note that becomes very apparent when breaking the crust. The cup has amazing sweetness and body, and really shines as a brewed coffee. City to City+ roasts are honeyed, and have sweet citrus juice notes like orange juice and lemonade. Fruited notes flourish at City+ roast with apricot, white peach, and Rainier cherry. Dark roasts have strongelements of tropical fruit punch with pineapple, guava, and kumquat. The finish is so sweet and clean, and with floral tea note of hibiscus flower in the long aftertaste.
