We have some scheduled site maintenance to take care of, so our shopping cart will be down for about an hour starting at 6am PST on Wed. 10/17. You can still window shop...you just won't be able to buy anything until around 7am. Sorry for the trouble and thanks for your patience.

Ecuador Organic Zumba -Santos Norberto

The cup has mild citrus flavorsl, tangerine, slight floral qualities, and lemon zinger tea in the finish. This lot has more clarity in tone than our other Ecuador microlots this year, and less nutty roast tone. I like the quality of the acidity, this pleasant mild citrus and tea quality, and the finish. City+.

A couple years ago we started to work more with small producers in Ecuador and look for microlots. Many of the farms are too small to produce enough coffee for a separate lot, and we offer their coffee by micro-region. But Santos Norberto from Zumba area had a good crop, and here is a lot of just his coffee. Well, it is the equivalent of 2 jute bags of coffee, so we are not talking a large farm here! Like the other coffees in the area, the plants are old Typica and you can see this in the large (and sometimes elongated) bean form of the green coffee. The cup has cultivar character, as well as some similarities to Guatemala coffees I have been cupping lately.
The dry fragrance has cocoa biscuit flavor, not a drying chocolate but also not an aggressively bittersweet chocolate. It's mild. There's an interesting citrus on the break, hard to categorize, but mild like pomelo. The cup has mild citrus flavors as well, tangerine, slight floral qualities, and lemon zinger tea in the finish. This lot has more clarity in tone than our other Ecuador microlots this year, and less nutty roast tone. I like the quality of the acidity, this pleasant mild citrus and tea quality, and the finish. It rates a little higher for those reasons.
