Air roasters are an inexpensive way to get started with home roasting. Most of these are "fluid bed" machines - using hot air to roast and move the coffee. They roast small batches, enough for one or two people. The ideal time range for an air roast is 8 to 12 minutes. Green coffee batch sizes range from about 3 to 4 oz, which yields enough roasted coffee to brew about 40 oz.

Air roasters are affected by voltage and ambient temperature. Voltage can vary from one house to another, and can sometimes fluctuate on one outlet. (I know this doesn't obviously affect your toaster, so why does it affect a roaster? I don't know why, I just know it does.) Ambient air temperature will also affect how hot the machine gets. So using a hot air roaster can have some variables you need to consider but it is no more complicated than cooking or baking.  More tips are available in the resources area of the menu bar and in our Library.
