We have some scheduled site maintenance to take care of, so our shopping cart will be down for about an hour starting at 6am PST on Wed. 10/17. You can still window shop...you just won't be able to buy anything until around 7am. Sorry for the trouble and thanks for your patience.

Brazil Minas Gerais - Murilo Neiva Junqueira

Murilo Junqueira's coffee is a fine example of a mild acid Brazil, dark sugar and roasted nut flavors, bodied to weighty mouthfeel, and pleasant cocoa powder finish. Some dried fruit shows up in the cooling cup, dark raisin, and black currant. City+ to Full City+. SO Espresso.

Murilo Neiva Junqueira is a 3rd generation coffee grower from South of Minas Gerais, in the Mantiqueira mountains. They're members of COCARIVE - Cooperative Regional dos Cafeicultores do Vale do Rio Verde - a real mouthful! This group is made up of coffee growers in the Carmo region, assisting each other to increase crop value and output, while also promoting the unique area where they farm. Located near the headwaters of Rio Verde, fresh water is plentiful and the land is very fertile. Large septic tanks were built near the river in order to keep wastewater from coffee processing from contaminating the river. Murilo's farm is located just above 1000 meters, and planted mostly in Bourbon. This lot is pulp natural process, definitely playing a part in cup cleanliness.
It's getting tougher and tougher to find good Brazils, and the last of our lots we purchased this year are all but sold out. We're happy to have a couple more up our sleeves, including this lot from another of the Junqueira family. It cups with convincing sweetness, and freshness, with classic Brazil qualities of sugar coated nuts and dried fruits. The wet grounds are particularly nice, with an alluring scent of sweet hotcakes. The cup is mild, low acidity, and balance of dark sugar and bittering cocoa powder. It's bodied, and at City+ harnesses a nice sugary fruit flavor, raisin and black currant. The finish has a lot of cocoa, and the darker the roast, the higher percentage of cacao flavor comes through. A nice drinking Brazil, and will make a great blend base too.
