Brazil Carmo de Minas - Fazenda Kaquend

The cup is delicate and light roasts have an orange-like flavor, with butter cookie and praline providing a mild overall intensity. As it cools, more mild citrus notes emerge along with green tea and a light caramel flavor. Full City roasts have dark fruits (think plum and fig), bittersweet chocolate characteristics and with a defined, but gentle citrus acidity. This is a bodied coffee that makes a great single origin espresso, or would provide great mouthfeel and sweetness to an espresso blend. City+ to Full City+.

At the foot of the Serra da Mantiqueira, Fazenda Kaquend has a 200-year-old tradition of coffee production. The farm is owned by Jos© Wagner Ribeiro Junqueira and his wife Margarida, and their sons Kleber, Ralph and Herbert. Kaquend has won too many awards to list, including the #1 spot in the Cup of Excellence. This lot is a pulp-natural process (cereja decascada) from this 45 acre farm with an altitude of 1100 to 1450 meters. They have Yellow Bourbon, Acai, Yellow Catua_, and Catuca_ varietals planted.
The dry fragrance has a nice nuttiness to it, that is like honey-roasted nuts. It's sweet, replete with notes of dark sugar and spiced chocolate. A strong smell of vanilla bean and hazelnut comes up in the wet aromatics, and the coffee crust that forms on top smells of brown sugar and raisin.
