2 for 1 Container Tuesday

Okay – it was not all on Tuesday – but it felt like it.  On Monday, aside from what’s becoming our usual 600+ Sweet Maria’s orders to send out, we were faced with the task of shipping a container load of coffee to an Australian customer from our wholesale site.   The 20′ container was loaded floor to ceiling with coffee.   This order was over 37,000lbs, so in order to get it all in, a large amount of stacking was in order. After a couple hours, our excellent crew got it all packed in. As if that wasn’t enough heavy work, our 40ft container of Clever Coffee Drippers arrived yesterday morning. Over 1200 cases were unloaded and put on pallets for easy access in our warehouse. Luckily, moving all that coffee out of our warehouse created enough room for this large amount of Clevers. Today, our shipment of Behmor coffee roasters arrives and we still need to continue getting your coffee orders out the door…whew! What a week.

Three new coffee additions

Burundi Sogestal Kirimiro is a very balanced, yet bright coffee with a Central America-like profile. Yemen Mokha Harasi is great at a wide range of roasts and has complex notes of dried fruit and rustic sweetness; a great SO espresso. Sumatra Toba Batak Peaberry with dark fruit and rindy citrus notes, this lot has a unique sweetness not often found in wet-hulled Sumatra coffees.

Four new additions

We welcome Ethiopia Goma Duromina Cooperative with ripe berry and chocolate in a sweet, delicate cup. Aged Sumatra Aceh ’07 Crop is a bit of an acquired taste with peppery notes, syrupy sweetness and complex herbal notes. Espresso Workshop #24 – El Competidor a chocolate laced blend with cherry brightness and creamy mouthfeel. Bolivia Beneficio Buenavista SWP Decaf a very articulate, clean decaf with raw honey sweetness.

Sourcing info straight from the source

Here’s the footage from the live webcast we did with Dan and Aleco, two of our coffee source-erers. We are now using “Google Hangouts On Air” which is commercial-free. In the future, you can expect better audio and video quality as we get used to our new broadcasting format.

A nice fruited Hawaiian and the re-stocking of the Behmor 1600

We just added Hawaii Kainaliu Kona Maragogype to our offerings page. We have limited it to 1 pound bags so more people can have a chance to try it. It’s a very fruited cup with apricot/peach in lighter roasts and cocoa/vanilla in darker roasts.

Also…Behmor 1600 roasters are back in stock and ready to ship. Behmor has been busy keeping up with orders and working on the release of their new brewer so we are happy to get our shipment in.

Four more new crop lots

Guatemala Finca La Florencia a well balanced cup that can take a bit more roast with lemon zest brightness and caramelized sugar. Brazil Carmo do Minas – Fazenda Kaquend a past COE winner with wonderful nuance and brightness, you must keep this light to enjoy it fully. Ethiopia Sidama Deri Kochoha one of the best Sidama lots we’ve found, amazing body, confectionary sweetness and phenomenal as SO espresso. Yemen Mokha Ismaili a sweet, spicy and herbal cup not as bright and fruited as other Yemens, another winner as SO espresso.

Maker Faire 2012

If you got a chance to see our demo at the Bay Area Maker Faire this past weekend, we would like to thank you for coming out and hope we were able to give you some good coffee roasting info. This was our first attempt at doing a multiple roaster demo. Having a Behmor, Quest, Air Crazy and Whirley Pop all run at the same time is pretty much asking for trouble…and trouble did find us. Common sense would tell us that four appliances producing tons of heat would be too much for an electrical circuit to handle, so we were prepared to show the crowd that coffee roasting does come with it’s obstacles, like the Quest quitting on us halfway through it’s roast. Down one roaster, were able to show everyone some decent results from the popcorn poppers and Behmor. Hopefully we will be able to do more events like this. It’s lots of fun being able to meet everyone and share the love of home roasting.
