A low-cost, well-designed electric mill for non-espresso coffee grinding. It is especially good for brewing with auto-drip machines and pour-over methods (like Chemex) that use a paper filter.Everyone talks about "conical burr grinders" as a requirement for good coffee brewing. But the fact is that pour-over or automatic drip brewing does not require the precise grinds more expensive mills produce. This humble little blade grinder is a remarkable little machine, long-lasting and low-maintenance.
One gripe we have with blade grinders is the heat from the heat from the motor affecting the coffee grinds -not a good thing as it can damage the coffee flavor. And you will get a mix of particle sizes - from fine powder to larger chunks but the paper filter ought to take care of most of the fines so they do not end up in the cup. We compared the blade mill with other grinders in a Tiny Joy article in the summer of 2011. And a blade mill is what we recommend for turkish coffee, when you really want to powderize the beans.
The Bodum Bistro electric coffee grinder has the same strong motor as the discontinued C-Mill which we found to be better than Krups or Braun mills. The C-Mill grinds 1.6 oz of coffee at a time. It is 6-3/4" tall and 3-3/4" wide. Available in black.
