With all the new types of filtercones that have come along, especially the ones with large holes for the brew water to escape into the cup quickly, I start to appreciate this classic-style filtercone.
It's all ceramic, it has a little "window" like the Beehouse dripper, but it has just one hole. If you can't master the technique required to get anything close to a good result from the Hario V-60 or the Bonmac V-60 clone, or if the idea of mustering up such a technique at 7 AM on a Saturday morning is unappealing, here is your answer.
You still want to rinse your filter with hot water, (pre-heat it too), then "pre-wet" the grinds with a minimal amount of water for 30 seconds. After that, you can pour slowly to fill the cone to it's full volume, then add hot water until the correct ratio of water and ground coffee is met.
You can do without a Hario Buono kettle, and still get a good result. Well, actually great result because this humble Melitta-type cone beat all our other drippers in 2 different double-blind pour-over brewing tests (click here for the YouTube video). Takes a standard flat bottom cone filter.
