This is the standard sized coffee measure scoop used in all the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) cupping seminars. It's useful for cupping or home brewing, and while it is a little bit larger than others, the size guarantees adequate strength: one level scoop approximates 10 to 11g coffee of medium roast whole bean coffee (dark roast take up more space and a scoop of dark roast might weigh less, as little as 8 to 9 grams). A heaping scoop of whole bean coffee will weigh about 12g. A level scoop of ground coffee will measure out to about 9 grams. A heaping scoop of ground coffee will be about 10 grams.
The SCAA recommends that you use 10g of coffee per 6oz of water (6oz is considered a "cup") so measure about 1 scoop of whole bean coffee per "cup".
We hope you like our logo because it's printed on the side.
To achieve ultimate ratio accuracy, you should weigh both your coffee and water while brewing. If you don't want to deal with a scale just to make a cup of coffee and you don't mind giving/taking a gram here and there, then this simple little scoop prove to be a very valuable tool in your coffee cabinet.
