Drum roasters produce a more even roast with balanced body and brightness. They also roast more coffee at once for those who drink a lot of coffee and need something with easy controls. This kit includes a Behmor 1600 Plus roaster, an 8 lb Green Coffee Sampler (your choice of regular, decaf, or espresso), a roast log and valve bags for storing roasted coffee. For an additional cost, we suggest adding a grinder, and Ken David's classic book, Home Roasting Romance and Revival.$375.50

Are you a Behmor user with a need for more control? This unassuming panel will do the trick. Installing it into a Behmor 1600 roaster will give your machine the same features as the Behmor Plus roaster. At first controlling the new features may seem complicated since some of the buttons are now multi-function but once you get used to it, your Behmor will be doing those things that you always wished it did. You will have the choice of using the original automatic mode with preset roast profiles as well.
You will have to install it yourself with standard household tools. Instructions will be provided. Click here for our installation guide.$50.00

We're expecting to have these in stock mid to late December. Thank you for your patience.
The Behmor 1600 roaster now ships with the Small Grid Drum. So this is only for folks who want to upgrade their older roaster or need a replacement.
The drum has a slightly smaller size and diagonial grid pattern to make it easier to roast small bean coffees and blends with small beans. It also has a hingeless clasp. The smaller grid does mean that there will be more chaff caught in the drum with the roasted beans. Chaff is essentially flavor-neutral, so it is not a problem to grind a little chaff with your coffee - or you can blow off the chaff. We recommend this drum for coffees such as Yemen, and even longberry Harar types that tend to get stuck in the wire grid of the older Behmor drum.

As of November 2009, Behmor roasters now ship with a "low profile" chaff tray. The re-designed chaff tray improves visibility, so you can see into the roaster much more easily.
In our experience using both chaff trays, there is a definite trade off with using the new low profile tray. Yes, visibility is enhanced, and that is good, but it is harder to maneuver in and out of the roaster, harder to clean, and with rivets and springs added to it, there is more to break. It seems to catch more chaff, but it is not safer in our experience. You can still have a chaff fire with the new tray; we did.
You definitely want to read the PDF that Joe Behm has written about the new chaff tray - as it is trickier to insert and remove from the roaster. Remember to remove the protective film covering on the new chaff tray if you have it, as noted in the Chaff Tray Instructions PDF above.
