Pour-Over

Pour-Over

Manual pour-over drip brewing is the cheapest, easiest ways to make great coffee. All you need is a pack of good quality filters, a filtercone holder and a way to heat water. With a manual brewing method, you can be assured the water hits the correct brewing temperature of 195-205°(unlike most auto-drip machines), and that the grounds are thoroughly saturated.

We have always been fans of pour-over brewing and we were happy to see an influx of new filtercone designs in recent years. But how do you choose? Typically you would choose by cup size, and how much time you want to spend on the pour. Ideally you want a 2-4 minute infusion time. The Clever Coffee Dripper and Bonavita Porcelain Immersion Filtercone have a stopper so you pour once, let the coffee steep, and after 2-4 minutes release the coffee into your cup. Brewing on a Hario V60, on the other hand, is like perfecting an art form. This filtercone has a large drip hole and so requires a slow and steady pour to maintain the thermal mass of the coffee and draw out the infusion time. We also carry filtercones like the Beehouse that are closer in design to a standard Melitta, with two small drip holes. For any of these brewing devices you will want to adjust your pour time and grind size to render a cup that is suitable to your taste.

Keep your dripper clean to ensure a great tasting cup. Cleaners like Cleancaf and Tabz work great!

  • HandyBrew Coffee Dripper - LARGE

The Handy Brew is a unique brewing device that is made by the manufacturers of the popular Clever Coffee Dripper. It combines the qualities of a Clever and a French press by using a double stainless steel screen and never needs paper filters. It brews about 32 fl. oz. of coffee. Brewing is very simple.  Add hot water and ground coffee, wait 2-4 minutes, put in on your cup and the coffee drains out.

The HandyBrew's double filter eliminates a lot of the fine sediment that you would normally find in a cup made by a french press or other metal screen methods. What you are left with is a cup with a good amount of body but minimal amounts of sediment. This is a great brewer to use if you want to bring out the sweetness in your coffee. We suggest a coarse grind, similar to what you would use in a french press.

The large size is great if you want about three servings of coffee at a time.
