How do you make a great cup of coffee at home?
Choose a brewing method that suits you. No brewing method is "the best" - it is largely a matter of personal preference. Some brewing methods are more suited to one type of coffee than another. For example, vacuum brewing tends to emphasize the delicate flavors in a cup, whereas espresso brewing makes a potent concentrate. Some methods are simpler, some more complicated. It should go without saying, but if you brew coffee that is low quality, poorly roasted, or old to start off with it will taste bad no matter what you do.
With all types of brewing, you need to use good, fresh water and clean equipment. Water must be between 195 and 205°F. The proper grind is also essential for maximum flavor extraction. You can find general brewing tips on the Brewing Fundamentals page and brewer-specific tip sheets and articles in the Library.
From the company that makes the popular Behmor 1600 coffee roaster, the Brazen Plus automatic 8 cup brewer allows control of brewing parameters such as brew temperature and altitude compensation (the altitude at which you brew your coffee...it doesn't fly). The Brazen has an auto timer to start brewing at any time of the day and when you find settings that you like, the Brazen saves them to use later. The water reservoir and carafe are both stainless steel. It has a pre-soak function to allow a small amount of hot water into the brew basket to pre-wet the coffee grounds. It comes with a gold mesh filter basket. Compared to the original Brazen, the Brazen Plus offers improved features like a taller filter/brew basket and an improved carafe.Learn More$199.00
One of the few electric brewers approved by the Specialty Coffee Association of America, we tested the Bonavita brewer and found that it makes a remarkably good cup of coffee. Like the Technivorm brewers, the Bonavita has the water reservoir to the side, so water must boil out of the tank. We tested the temperature of the water coming from the showerhead and it was right above 200°, the perfect brewing temperature. The 7 hole showerhead does a great job at saturating the grounds. The boiler automatically shuts off after a few minutes (after the brew cycle is complete).Learn More$170.00
The Technivorm is certified by the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) to brew at the correct temperature, because the water has to boil in order to leave the heater. Since there is no pump, and water does not fall from top to bottom like some brewers, you know that the water coming out is the right temperature. The Technivorm brewers are all simple, straight-forward machines that do one thing ... and do it very well!$299.00

This electric brewer has all the same great features of the other Technivorm models we sell, except for one difference...the brew basket. Instead of the three-way switch on the side of the brew basket, this model has a drip stop switch under the brew basket platform so when you remove the carafe, the coffee stops flowing. The CDGT comes with a footplate that sits under the carafe. Unlike the other Technivorm models, the CDGT requires you to use the footplate for best results because it raises the carafe the small amount needed to trigger the release lever properly.Learn More$299.00
The Trifecta MB is a home version of Bunn's commercial Trifecta unit, simplified, scaled down, but still with a lot of user-control to create the brew you want. If you enjoy experimenting with how your coffee is brewed, the Trifecta MB could be the right machine for you.$550.00
This is a replacement thermal carafe for your BonaVita 8-cup electric brewer. It's lined with stainless steel and the lid has 2 gaskets so your coffee will stay hot for a long time.
The Small Clever is so simple and greatly improves the quality of the coffee you brew. You get full flavor extraction and good body. It differs from a normal filtercone by way of a stopper added to the bottom: water only drains once the filtercone is placed onto a cup. It's easy to disassemble for cleaning. Like all filtercone brewing methods, you directly control the temperature of the water, ratio of water and coffee and infusion time. This smaller Clever dripper brews the perfect amount for one person or 2 people who like to drink smaller amounts.
One box of #2 Filtropa filters included. It's BPA-free but not dishwasher or microwave safe.Learn More$18.00
The Clever Dripper gives you full flavor extraction and good body. The stopper at the bottom allows water to drain when the filtercone is placed on a cup. It's made of durable BPA-free plastic and is easy to disassemble for cleaning.
The Clever Coffee Dripper combines the best features of French press and filter drip brewing. It combines control over steeping time with a sediment-free cup. Like all filtercone brewing methods, you directly control the water temperature, water to coffee ratio and the infusion time.
A box of #4 Filtropa filters is included.
The BonaVita Porcelain Immersion Filtercone is a porcelain dripper with a switch-operated stopper at the bottom. The base is plastic (clamped to the porcelain with screws) and the stopper is silicone. It's dishwasher-safe. If the coffee mug or cup you are brewing into has a minimum opening diameter between 2.5" and 3.75", then this filtercone will perch on it just fine.
It uses #4 filters and brews about 16 oz of brewed coffee.Learn More$40.00
