A Warning! Perform this operation at your own risk only. If you damage your mill during this operation Sweet Maria's or Solis is not going to assume any responsibility. If you set the burrs so tight that you grind them smooth creating Turkish powder, you are going to have to replace them at your own risk. If you are a mechanical brute and you snapp the grind adjustment dial in half ... you are going to have to replace it out of your own pocket (your warranty provider Baratza stocks some parts, see your Solis Materials for contact information. Proceed at your own risk!
If you have any trouble with the grind dispensing spout on the 177 becoming clogged, click here! You can adjust the entire range of grind on the Solis 177 Mulino in about a minute, with no tools. The first time you do this, take your time as you go along. And consider that in the life of a mill you may have a limit on how often you can do this: eventually you will fatigue the plastic adjustment dial and it will break. But in general this is very very simple.
| How to expose the burrs: | |
Remove the hopper by pushing gently on the circular tab in the back, lifting the back end of the hopper upward and lift it off. Voila ...there they are! |

| How to remove the top burr for cleaning: | |
| Turn the setting dial toward the 7 setting, and keep turning until it stops. get a grip on the burr and lift straight up ...or rock it gently while lifting. To put the burr back in reverse these steps but make sure the grind adjustment setting is in the same position (past 7 until it stops) or it will not go in. Make sure the burr is seated correctly before using the mill! | |
| How to adjust the grind range: | |
Somehow this is much easier than all these directions make it seem... Here's the idea: the grind setting dial (with the numbers on it) is held in place in a postion relative to the lower disc burr. It is held by 2 little knobbies you can't see from the top, one at each end of the half-moon arc of the grind adjustment dial. You just pop the grind setting dial upward but hold it in place, turn the lower disc burr to shift the grind range, then push the setting dial back down to snap it into place.(You can do this with the top burr in or out ...it doesnt matter.) |
Turn the adjustment dial to the middle of its range. If there are red marks on the lower burr disc (the broad circular nylon disc with all the holes, might have 2 red marks on it) make note of them, if there are not make a mark of your own at some convenient place. Position a thumb and forefinger at each end of the grind setting dial. |

| Firmly but gently lift the setting dial upward while pushing down on the lower burr disc (the broad circular nylon disc with all the holes). This might require one swift move because there is one knob at each end of the dial you are popping out. You can lift one end and pop it out, then the other, but I think its easier on the grind setting dial to do them simultaneously. Keep the setting dial in the same postition though. | ![]() |
| You could also pop the dial off with a narrow flathead screwdriver, but I think this runs a greater risk of cracking the grind setting dial. If you choose this, be gentle and it should be no problem. | ![]() |
Now, turn the lower burr disc to adjust: Turn it clockwise to set the entire grind range finer. Turn it counter clockwise to set the entire grind range coarser. I would adjust it no more than 4 clicks at a time. Then test it, and it will only take a minute to change if you find its not enough. Push downward on either end of the grind setting dial to snap it back onto the lower burr disc. If you took the top burr out, put it back in making sure it is seated just right! |
Put the grind hopper back on with care, making sure you angle the front in first ...and that the tab goes on the inside of the mill body as it comes down.
