We're going into the weekend on a high note

Hawaii Kona Kowali Farm Typica 2014 is a gem of a Hawaiian coffee, with developed sweetness and sparkling high notes. Hawaii for us is a short window as we buy such a limited quantity. As such, we are only offering 1 and 2 lb quantities.

Brazil Dry-Processed Conquista Farm has a sweet, and nutty characteristic that makes for a pleasing brewed cup as well as espresso. This one's body and sweetness all the way!

And then there were Ethiopians...

-Ethiopia Yirga Cheffe Teklu Chele'lektu has pointed acidity, a deep sweetness, and with a healthy dose of fresh star jasmine.

-Ethiopia Yirge Cheffe Kore Kochore shows bold flavors of sugar-browing - like maple, and caramel syrup and a nice hint of dried wildflowers.

-Costa Rica Helsar Magdalena Vega, a nice dual-use coffee.

-Tanzania Shah Plantation AA offers a unique balance of sweetness and acidity as a brewed cup.

Look out in the coming weeks for our first arrivals of Kenyas, the return of Ugandan coffee, as well as our latest Workshop blend #31.

The SCAA Show 2014: New Products

We were in Seattle attending the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) show this past weekend. Aside from attending meetings, classes, etc., we got to zig-zag across the trade show floor looking at coffee products. Normally there's a handfull of ridiculous devices produced by companies that know little about coffee but this year's show featured some smart products and good improvements. Here's a few things that caught our eye.

...

The Return of Costa Rica Coffees and a New Rwanda

Costa Rica Helsar - Leo Rojas Rola has dark brown sugars, cinnamon stick, baked apple and chocolate almond bark notes

Costa Rica Helsar - Nancy with sugar, malt syrup, chocolate and fruit flavors

Rwanda Small Producers Mutovu Cooperative is spicy, with apple, vanilla and caramel notes

Guatemalas are back in stock!

-Guatemala Acatenango Finca San Diego Buena Vista has the balance and structure of a well-rested coffee, and 'classic' Guatemala cup characteristics

-Guatemala Alotenango Finca Candelaria has refreshing acidity, and makes for a great dual-use brewed coffee/espresso

-Guatemala Volcan de Fuego Guacatepeque has an intermingling of malt sugar, and mandarin-like acidity, that makes for a nice, approachable cup.

We're always excited when Guatemala season begins, and these 3 lots are definitely starting us off on a good foot!
