  • 7/30: Welcome in three new coffees, including a Gesha arrival! Panama Esmeralda Gesha -Mario Carnaval Lot , Panama Carmen "Siete Dias de Bellota" , and El Salvador Siberia Estate Pacamara We'll start off with Panama Esmeralda Gesha -Mario Carnaval Lot. We are limiting sales to 1-lb so everyone gets to try this special coffee. Keep the roast light and remove the quakers for a berry mix profile and jasmine accents. Next up we'd like to announce the Panama Carmen "Siete Dias de Bellota", another atypical Panama that has been dry-processed producing almond, and dried fruit tastes in the cup. Next up is a more traditional Central with El Salvador Siberia Estate Pacamara. This large-bean has a brown sugar taste and juicy fruits flavor profile and takes a wide range of roasts. .. With our new review format, Tom will be adding more details about the particular farm alongside cupping notes so make sure to click-through to the full descriptions.
  • 7/23: Two special limited offerings for the weekend: Brazil Daterra Farms - Sweet Blue and Ecuador El Guabo -Teofilo Jimenez Microlot We have a very limited quantity of two unique South American coffees to add for the weekend. Brazil Daterra Farms - Sweet Blue is a new offering for Sweet Maria's, a tad sweeter than the Sweet Yellow with wonderful bittering notes balancing a mild blueberry note--limit 2 lbs. Ecuador El Guabo - Teofilo Jimenez Microlot is one of the most amazing Ecuador lots we've come across, hopefully a sign of things to come in the future as we continue to work with small producers in this country. This lot features true "Typica" character with floral sweetness and ripe orange notes--limit 1 lb. Have a great weekend!
  • 7/22: I wanted to give folks a heads-up that I am raising the price on the 4 pound and 8 pound samplers. We have not raised these sampler prices in a long time, even though we have been paying more for green coffee across the board. As you know, our samplers are the same quality coffee as what we sell by the pound, not lesser quality. At $19 for the 4 pound sampler, that works out to $4.75 a pound, and at $36 for the 8 pound sampler, that is $4.50 a pound. This is still a considerable savings. And we know that folks like that we do the selecting so they can maybe try a coffee they are unfamiliar with. - Maria
  • 7/21: Zassenhaus Grab Bag/Garage Sale! I posted some items on the Sale Page that are a bit unusual. Basically I received a bevy of "reject" mills from my Zassenhaus supplier and do not have the where with all to test of all them. So I am selling them "for display purposes only;" they may work, they may not. They are $10 each, no warranty, no choice of exact color. They may have a little scratch, or other imperfection, or trouble with a grind adjustment. Think of it as our Island of Misfit Manual Coffee Mills! - Maria
  • 7/14: Bonne Fête! Today we are adding Hawaii Kona -Kowali Farm Typica, Sumatra Lintong Dolok Sanggul, and Peru FTO CO2 Decaf. The Hawaii Kona -Kowali Farm Typica is a coffee and farm folks have really enjoyed in years past. Look for a refined sugar sweetness, silky body, and caramel-honey roast tastes. Limit 5-lb per customer please! Next up is the Sumatra Lintong Dolok Sanggul, another low-acid chocolatey crowd-pleaser from Indonesia. This particular varietal has a spicy black tea accents as well. Lastly we have a special process decaf Peru FTO CO2 Decaf . This was decaffeinated using the C02 technique and the cup is an aggressive pungent cup at dark roasts with a bright and clean fruit note at lighter stages.
  • 7/07: Five exciting new coffees: Costa Rica Chirripo -Finca Alaska, El Salvador Matalapa -Tablon El Amate, Kenya Kirinyaga Karimikui, Guatemala Finca La Bella JBM Cultivar, and Ethiopia Organic Shakiso Wet Process. The Costa Rica Chirripo -Finca Alaska is a new farm for us. This is unique in its sweetness and brightness for a Crestones coffee and we're happy to have this intensely fruited cup in our arsenal. El Salvador Matalapa -Tablon El Amate is a versatile coffee from light to espresso roast; this is from a great older farm that we've enjoyed for quite a few years. Look for orange citrus and buttery body from this Pacas type coffee. We are excited to add another Kenya to our inventory… the Kenya Kirinyaga Karimikui, a complex array of brown sugar, fruit notes, and caramel with a syrupy sweet body to boot. We haven't seen quality Jamaican Blue Mountain in awhile, but this JBM, grown in Guatemala is special indeed. Fans will remember Guatemala Finca La Bella JBM Cultivar's great body, toffee, caramel, and restrained brightness. Look for lemon and apple brightness at the lighter roasts. Last on the list is the Ethiopia Organic Shakiso Wet Process with moderate brightness, caramel and jasmine tones, and lemon scent. Phew! Those summaries were a mouthful. Check out Tom's full reviews too!
  • 6/28: We are bringing back the E-Mailer! It has been a long time since we sent this out so for most of our customers it will be new. The Emailer will have product and green coffee updates and other tidbits of information, as well as links to pages of the Sweet Maria's website that even we did not know existed (maybe that has happened to you too!). Our plan is to have it come out every two weeks so you will not be flooded with emails. New customers will see the link in check-out, but for some reason, existing customers will not. But we have an Emailer Sign-Up page. - Maria
  • 6/28: Five new arrivals today, two of them Espresso related: Sweet Maria's Liquid Amber Espresso Blend, Panama Guyami Indian Robusta, Hawaii Ka'anapali DP Maui Moka 16 Screen, El Salvador Finca San Gabriel Bourbon, and Colombia - Los Chuchos de Tolima Everyone has been waiting for the Liquid Amber, and it is finally back! The Vienna roast is a potent and savory cup with chocolate/noir tastes; this blend is perfect also for milk drinks. In the Panama Guyami Robusta folks will remember baker's chocolate in this potent cup. Best to keep this dark and in espresso blends at 15%. Rounding things out are some excellent drip coffees starting with Hawaii Ka'anapali DP Maui Moka 16 Screen with its honey and maple sugar flavors and hint of cocoa. Don't let the tiny screen size fool you - thick body and chocolate flavors here. The El Salvador Finca San Gabriel Bourbon is a classic Bourbon cup with mild citrus, cane sugar, and dense body. Look for even more chocolate and body at darker roasts! Lastly is the 'mutt' of the pack,… literally. It's Colombia - Los Chuchos de Tolima, a mutt-like combination of the best of the best of Colombian microlots. Note the spicy sweetness in the cup with a sweet/savory quality that is very balanced. Check out Tom's full reviews as you click-through!
  • 6/21: You'll be happy to hear we're adding four more coffees today! First up is the return of two oft-requested coffees… The return of our Sweet Maria's Moka Kadir Blend for which we finally have proper quality components to mix. As most know, this is great for both drip and espresso. Look for dark molasses, intense chocolate and rustic fruit in the cup. Second up is the long-awaited Colombia Finca Buenavista -Carlos Imbachi. This is an outstanding microlot with tropical fruit and sugar cane in the profile. Look for chocolate-covered raisin in the darker roasts. (also: we are limiting sales on this small lot of coffee.) The Guatemala Bourbon -Finca San Diego Buena Vista is a quality Guatemala Bourbon through and through. This is Tom's current favorite for single-origin espresso. Look for lemon-zest and chocolate in the darker roasts in this new offering! Last but not least is another one our standards, Sumatra Takengon Classic Mandheling … which most of you know from the past. For those who don't: it's a low acidity semisweet chocolatey profile with dark sugars, earth, and heavy body. It's another dark-roast favorite!
  • 6/18: More coffees! We're adding a nice variety today, beginning with a second lot of Kenya Kirinyaga Peaberry Gakuyu-ini. Look for high citrus tones here and a fruit-bomb flavor profile. Staying on the brighter side, we've also added Panama Finca La Camiseta. This is a traditional wet-process with apple acidity and caramelized brown sugar at darker roasts. Next is an unusual coffee, very different than others from the region: Sulawesi Wet-Process Toarco Peaberry. This is a bright herbal cup with a piney aroma and flavor hints of Guatemala and Island coffees. Last up is the Brazil Joao de Campos Yellow Catuai, a chocolaty cup from the Cerrado region. Try this one as an espresso blend base! Welcome to Summertime everybody! We'll have more exciting additions soon!
  • 6/09: We're excited to announce… four new coffees and two are Kenyas! First is the stellar Kenya Murang'a AA Kangunu ... a tongue-twister in name and taste, this is a bright coffee with sweet honey and floral notes. It has malty syrup, honey and caramel and distinct berry notes toward the darker roasts. See the full review for more info on the coop and the farm-gate type of sale. Next we have Kenya Kirinyaga Karani Peaberry, an effervescent cup with complex Nyeri-like brightness and malt syrup notes. Darker roasts have a bittersweet and dark chocolate accent. These lots are limited so act fast! Bringing up the rear are two favorites fully back in stock. The Brazil Cerrado DP Fazenda Aurea is a great blend base, single-origin espresso, or drinking coffee as most of you know by now. Look for great creamy body and a clean flavor profile with nuts and chocolate at darker roasts. Finally, we have Sumatra Lintong Blue Batak, a thick-bodied, spicy and rustic cup with fruit notes and a sweetness that sets it a bit apart. Takes a dark roast well too!
  • 6/04: Oh Happy Day! As promised earlier in the week we are adding three new coffees today, including a new Yemeni coffee, which has been much anticipated. The shipment finally came through and the first Yemen we can offer is the Yemen Mokha Sharasi, a coffee with intensely sweet aromas, and sweet fruit, spice and sandalwood accents, characteristically rustic. Interesting as a SO espresso with enough rest. The Brazil Daterra Farms - Yellow Bourbon is back, with a strong almond fragrance, and rustic sweetness. City+ roasts are good for a bright cup, and darker roasts for a compelling SO espresso. Finally, the first of our new shipment of Kenyan coffees, the ever-popular Kenya Kirinyaga Peaberry Gakuyu-ini, with high-tones citrus, Meyer lemon, layers of fruit, raisin and plum. A real fruit-bomb Kenya!
  • 6/03: I changed the way we are using the "Current Crop Comments" box on the coffee origin pages - re-naming them "Upcoming Crop Comments" (and changing the lovely color at the same time!) and using them to indicate more exclusively what is coming. Let me know what you think! - Maria
  • 6/01: Big changes at the Sweet Maria's warehouse! Well, not changes that customers will be able to see, but a huge change for us. We are installing a mezzanine in the warehouse this week to give us more storage for merchandise. Because this is a hugely disruptive project, we are holding off on adding new coffees. So we will be be adding Yemeni, Brazilian and Kenyan coffee later this week - likely by Friday , once we have a sense how the mezzanine is coming together. So hang on - new coffees are on the way.
  • 5/24: For those of you interested in all the hub-bub about pour-over drip, I just added the plastic Bonmac VCD dripper - which is nearly identical to the Hario V60, except that it is plastic, whereas we carry the ceramic Hario V60, and so is less expensive.

Thank-you for your continued patronage!
